Main research area of the transportation economic lab includes supply and demand of transportation services. transportation fare system. transportation investment analysis, location selection of transportation facilities and logistics.

Transportation system analysis LAB

The Transportation Systems Analysis Laboratory (TSAL) is one of the premier research laboratories in South Korea in the areas of traveler behavior analysis, transportation demand analysis and transportation network analysis. The Lab seeks to study the effect of changes in the transportation in the transportation systems or activity systems on flow pattern or traveler’s behavior. The Lab also carries out computer simulation analysis prior to the actual construction of transportation facilities such as highway, rail, terminal in order to prevent the waste of time and resources for the construction. The major research interests of the lab are transportation demand modeling, traveler’s choice behavior analysis, theories and application for the traffic behavior with route guidance systems or traveler information systems, models needed in generating route information by using hybrid-scopic traffic simulation programs and more.

Highway and Airport Research LAB

The highway and airport research lab investigates the construction and maintenance/repair of highway & airport pavements. Especially, the lab is leading the pavement research by being equipped with ARIA (Automated Road Image Analyzer) and HAPT (Hanyang Accelerated Pavement Tester) for the first time for a university in Korea. Currently, the lab is investigating pavement construction management method to improve the performance of aged concrete pavement and fundamental methods for the maintenance/repair (rehabilitation/restoration) of aged pavements. Additionally, Road safety facility installation and management standard was investigated to propose a guide reference, “Guide for Road Safety Facility Installation and Management Standard - Constructing sliding-proof pavements”, and the evaluation of road pavement friction to environmental and traffic loads is also being carried out.

Guided Transportation Systems Research LAB

Guided transport system refers to all public transportation operating on a specified line of traffic within its own boundary. This lab is a research center that focuses on transportation policy. It conducts research and projects related to railroad policy. Currently, the lab is engaged in projects to put knowledge into practice, thus fostering the professional expertise of the lab staff. Examples of their research to apply general policy theory to transportation are: 1) selection of the best route based on optimization theory, 2) proposal of the best operation system based on computation of cost and convenience analysis and 3) development of investment alternatives in the transportation field.

Intelligent Transportation Systems Research LAB

첨단교통시스템연구실 사무실 및 분석이미지

Maximization of road efficiency requires a great deal of expertise and technology encompassing all the stages of road design, construction, operation and management. Intelligent Transportation Systems Research Laboratory studies a variety of transportation issues and strives for finding the best alternative solution to these issues. Its activities involve building expert system, transportation information system, sensor system, and ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) for controlling the traffic flow.
Furthermore, it uses such advanced knowledge tools as operation research theory, fuzzy theory, genetic algorithm, neural network theory, etc. in analyzing the traffic situation and optimizing the traffic flow. Additionally, it uses transportation simulation analysis tools to carry out the analysis of complex and unpredictable traffic situation. Various theories related to the transportation field are put into practice and application in this lab.

Traffic safety information LAB

The traffic safety information lab focuses on reducing traffic accidents by developing theoretical and practical crash prevention measures. Main research area includes traffic surveillance systems, real-time traffic information, accident data analysis, traffic safety evaluation, human factors in transportation, AI applications in transportation, microscopic simulation, traffic agent control, real-time traffic data filtering and processing, travel time estimation and prediction, data fusion etc.
